Hugo Meynell CofE (VC) Primary School

Working together with our children, their parents, the church

and the community, Hugo Meynell CofE (VC) Primary School promotes

high standards  and a caring environment in which every child is valued.

Collective Worship

The Hugo Meynell Primary School is a Church of England, Voluntary Controlled School and as such is a Christian School guided by the ethos of the Church of England.  We enjoy close links with our local churches, which we use in many different ways as resources for teaching.

We have a daily act of worship, sometimes as a whole school and sometimes in our Key Stages.  The Rev. Jonathan Eades, vicar of St Johns Parish Church Ashley, regularly leads our Friday act of worship.

We have a clear distinction between our assembly and act of worship time and the children are encouraged to recognise this distinction.

Parents have the right to withdraw their child or children from all or part of the religious education and collective worship provided by the school.  Parents wishing to exercise this right are asked to contact the Headteacher in the first instance, in order to discuss alternative provision for children who are withdrawn.

The display of the tiled “stained glass windows”, in our entrance hall, reflects our Christian status and our links with the Church.  Inspirations for the designs were taken from our RE syllabus and the tiles were made and painted by the children in July 2000, whilst working with Liz Astbury, an ‘Artist in Residence’.
